All About American Buffalo Gold Coins

Article by Fred Michaels

American Buffalo Gold CoinsThe America Buffalo Gold Coin is a gold bullion coin produced by the United States Mint, that started being sold on June twenty-two, 2006. The most notable distinguishing feature between United States US Eagles and American Buffalos is that the American Buffalo is 24 karat bullion gold coin, to paraphrase 99.99% pure gold. The main United States Eagle coins are twenty-two carat gold, to paraphrase.9167% pure gold, while the rest is a silver/copper amalgamate. Buffalo gold coins were introduced as a result of accelerating world requirement for 24 K bullion coins, and the idolization of Canadian Maple Leafs, Chinese Gold Panda coins, and various 99.99 pure gold bullion items. The 1 oz. gold buffalo coin has a face value of fifty dollars. But as with different coins, this amount just implies the coin is legal tender and has no actual relationship to the coin's real worth, that relies on the present gold spot cost. The planning of Gold Buffalos is based on the design of the Buffalo Nickel, that was available from 1913 to 1938. The imagery, by James Earle Frase, features a picture of an American Indian man on the front, and a picture of a Yank bison ( buffalo ) on the reverse. The front face also includes the date at the bottom lefthand side, and the word "Liberty" along the top right. The reverse face features the name "United States of America" along the top edge, under that to the righthand side is the phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" which is Latin for "Out of many, one" ( a slogan used in many official Yankee symbols ). It also says "In God We Trust" near the bottom lefthand side, and towards the bottom the official worth, and under the official price the coin's weight in grams and pureness of ".9999 Fine Gold". The American buffalo gold bullion coin is additionally sold in fractional sizes of half oz. with a face price of $ 25, 0.25 oz. with a face price of $ 10, and 1 / ten oz. with a face cost of $ 5. Buffalo gold coins at times have been minted in uncirculated and proof versions of better minting quality ( and high premium pricing ), but such coins have been canned for the year 2009 due to unheard-of need for gold bullion coins. In addition, 2009 release of the regular bullion buffalo coins have been delayed until a later date. The majority of the skyrocketing investors' demand is for US gold eagles, so that the United States Mint is keeping almost all of its gold stock for their minting. U.S. buffalos minted in prior years can be found in coin stores and bullion stores. But you may have to research to locate some because there's no supply of newly minted coins this year.

Why Are Double Eagle Gold Coins So Popular Among Collectors and Investors?

Article by Wilson Snyder

The Double Eagle gold coin is very popular among collectors and investors for many reasons. Despite a shaky dollar and a bad economy, these reasons haven't changed much in years. Here are three reasons why Double Eagles are so popular. They are beautiful coins to look at.The Lady Liberty and St. Gaudens designs used on a Double Eagle gold coin are two of the most beautiful ever used on any of our U.S. coins. They show a grace that is subdued yet dignified. This beauty is often emphasized with the coin's large shape and heft. As a result, many collectors and investors enjoy collecting this coin just for its beauty. There are many rare dates among these coins.

Many $ 20.00 gold coins are very rare even in well-circulated grades. This makes them very desirable to collectors and investors who understand the extreme rarity of the coins. For example, many $ 20.00 gold coins issued in the 1880's had mintages reported in the high hundreds to a few thousand pieces made. The rarity of these dates adds even more collector interest to these coins. In addition, the high demand for gold makes these coins more popular than ever. The war against the U.S. dollar further enhances the popularity of Double Eagle Gold Coins. With gold at an all-time numerical high, gold coins such as the Double Eagle are becoming much more in demand. This is because gold coins are an easy, economical way to own gold. They are also extremely easy to sell. This liquidity makes them quite popular with investors who want to get in (and out) of the market quickly. Finally, $ 20.00 gold coins are still one of the best numismatic values around.Even though gold is at an all-time numerical high, twenty dollar gold coins are still one of the best numismatic values around. Most issues still sell for just a tiny fraction above their bullion value. This makes them one of the best overall values in the hobby. (To give you an idea of how good a value they are, many well-worn silver dollars often sell for twice their bullion value!)Therefore, any collector or investor who would like to add value to his holdings ought to consider adding at least one double eagle gold coin to his holdings. Their beauty and value makes them worthwhile. And in this tough economy, that's a great thing. To learn more about Double Eagle Gold Coins, I recommend you checking out Saint Gaudens Double Eagle. It is a specialized American Double Eagle coin for sale site, offering a great selection of gold Double Eagle coins for sale. This website makes finding your dream American Double Eagle coins a million times easier. Be sure to try this website before you buy.

US gold coins by law have to be minted to keep up with the public demand. In doing so Good proof coins and fractional gold has been suspended as the demand for the American Gold Eagle Coins have reached underrepresented interest due to an unstable US currency. Gold is recognized by all countries and has been a form of trade for over 6000 years. China and India both have long term buying programs for their banks and encourage individuals to buy gold. As fiat currencies not backed by gold come under scrutiny the demand for gold increases.

A bestseller throughout the Arab world, a tribute to sex, eroticism, language and liberty, The Proof of the Honey is a superb celebration of female pleasure. A Syrian scholar working in Paris is invited to contribute to a conference on the subject of classic erotic literature in Arabic. The invitation provides occasion for her to evoke memories from her own life, to exult in her personal liberty, her lovers, her desires, and to revisit moments of shared intimacy with other women as they discuss life, love, and sexual desire. Far more than an erotic novel, The Proof of the Honey is a surprising and illuminating voyage into the history of Arabic literature. Borrowing inspiration from The Thousand and One Nights , erudite asides are woven into the fabric of the protagonists story and the stories of her lovers. Affirming that Arabic is the language of sex, and making desire the source of her own personal liberty, Al Neimi has written a stirring novel about the place afforded sex in modern Arabic society and its relationship to the long, rich tradition of Arabic erotica.

San Francisco, U.S.A.

Article by Hannah Rollmaker

From the stunning Golden Gate Bridge to the historic Union Square, San Francisco is a veritable treasure trove for people of all kinds. Though plagued throughout history with such disasters as multiple major earthquakes and raging fires that have laid the city to the ground on several occasions, the city has simply picked up the pieces and moved on, erecting new foundations but keeping their traditional collective personality in mind. This city was once a thriving, booming Gold Rush town that was widely considered the financial capital of the country and then it was leveled to the ground in the 1906 Earthquake. Newspapers around the world proclaimed "San Francisco is gone" but the city rebuilt as it has always done and, God forbid, they'll do it again if need be.

Visitors flock to San Francisco in droves each year because of the amazing variety of exciting sights to see. The Golden Gate Bridge is easily one of the most beautiful and most recognizable wonders of the modern world and it also has the less desirable title of being the landmark on which the most suicides are committed each year. Keeping with the somber tone, San Francisco is also home to one of the most famous prisons in the history of the world: The now defunct Alcatraz. This maximum security was widely known for being nigh on inescapable and was the temporary home of famous villains including Al Capone and Machine Gun Kelly.

It is little wonder that San Francisco is such an immensely popular tourist town, but living in this paradise proves to be a bit too expensive for the majority of folks who come to visit. The high cost of living is related to the sheer amount of wealth that comes into the town, from eight billion in tourism in a good year to the billions created by Silicon Valley each year. For all San Francisco's wealth, though, the problem of homelessness has been a consistent thorn in the side of an otherwise fantastic town. For nearly thirty years now San Francisco has had among the highest rate of homeless people for any major city. This has always been a thorn in the city's side but it is yet another testament to San Francisco's unwavering dedication to upholding the code inscribed on the Statue of Liberty: "Give us your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free". The city has similarly opened its arms to the gay community and San Francisco is now the unofficial gay capital of the United States.

San Francisco is also one of the most environmentally conscious cities in the entire world. Aside from the fact that nearly a third of the population uses public transportation, the city was a pioneer in enacting laws regarding smoking, carbon emissions, and global warming. Many cities have similarly followed suit and because of factors like green policy and multiculturalism, San Francisco is widely considered the most "European" city in America. San Francisco is also one of the few cities where Whites are not a majority, thanks to the heavy mixture of Latino, Asian, White, and Black races. There is no real majority and, as a result, the relatively low crime rate of San Francisco is astonishing considering that it is the twelfth most populated city in the entire United States! Whether you want to visit or live in San Francisco for political or aesthetical purposes, the plain truth is that you likely won't be disappointed. Pay a visit to the city on the bay today!

In 1898: The Birth of the American Century, David Traxel tells the story of a watershed year, a year of foreign conflict, extravagant adventure, and breakneck social change that forged a new America—a sudden empire with many far-flung possessions, a dynamic new player upon the global stage. At the heart of this vivid, anecdotal history is a masterly account of the Spanish-American War, the "splendid little war" that garnered the nation Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. From the sinking of the Maine in waters off Havana to Teddy Roosevelt's rough riders and the triumph of Admiral Dewey, here is the lightning-swift military episode that transformed America into a world power. Here too are many stories not so often told—the bloody first successes of the new United Mine Workers, the tentative beginnings of the Ford Motor Company, the million-dollar launch of the Uneeda Biscuit—each in its way as important as the harbinger of the American century. Compulsively readable, frequently humorous, utterly fascinating in its every detail, 1898 is popular history at its finest. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Gold Coins Manual: The French 20 Franc Rooster

Article by Micah Riddle

The rooster was as soon as once more changed by the fleur-de-lis in the center of the 1800s when Napoleon III was as soon as once more seated in electrical power. It is nonetheless deemed to be a symbol of independence and liberty up to this day in France. The obverse facet of the French 20 Franc displays the picture of the leader of the third French Republic which is also surrounded by the phrase "Republique Francaise". The 3rd republic of France was designed right after Napoleon III was defeated in the Franco-Prussian war in 1870. This republic reigned more than France right up until the start off of the Planet War II.The reverse aspect of the French 20 Franc exhibits the popular Gallic rooster with is plume in full show. Also on this facet is the date, denomination and the phrase "Liberte Egalite Fraternite". If translated to English, this phrase implies "Freedom, Equality, Fraternity." This phrase grew to become common right after it was uttered by Louis XVI in the French Revolution. The French twenty Franc gold coins ended up minted from 1898 to 1914. The coins that dated from 1907 to 1914 were struck again in 1921 and as soon as again from 1951 to 1960 at the Paris Mint. The French 20 Franc gold coins from the initial yr of the unique minting are regarded to be quite uncommon and useful. The very first arrondissement lies in the heart of Paris on the Seine River's proper bank. It contains the western part of Ile de La Cit&eacute, 1 of the two Parisian islands. This district was when the coronary heart of the Roman metropolis of Lutetia. It occupies less than a square mile (less than two square kilometers) with a declining population of under seventeen thousand. But it employs far more than sixty thousand men and women and attracts a lot and plenty of tourists. Right here are some of the reasons why.Les Halles was the city's central market, covered in 1183. Read Zola's 1873 novel Le Ventre de Paris (The Stomach of Paris) for a timeless picture of this special setting demolished in 1971 and replaced by a huge underground contemporary buying center, the Forum des Halles. The world's greatest underground transportation station Ch&acirctelet-Les-Halles serves a half million train passengers and a quarter million subway passengers day-to-day. Make positive to see the historic Gothic Church of Saint-Eustache where youthful Louis XIV acquired communion. This church is home to many Rubens paintings and holds organ concerts in the summertime. The Mus&eacutee du Louvre (Louvre Museum) greets far more than eight million tourists a year, more than any other art museum in the phrase. It was named the Mus&eacutee Napol&eacuteon in honor of all his war booty which was eventually returned to the rightful homeowners. The original "Castle of the Louvre" was launched in 1190 at the western edge of Paris to defend the town. The oldest standing building was begun in 1535. The Louvre includes practically 4 hundred thousand objects including twelve thousand paintings. Two of its most famous products are the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. Approach to spend a good deal of time in this amazing museum.

Facebook & Google+ Safe Alternative Emerges: OnlyMeWorld
Honolulu, Hawaii (PRWEB) October 02, 2011

OnlyMeWorld -- Everyone from journalists to students, blogosphere to wall street, hackers to homemakers, and now even Washington DC lawmakers, are talking about a wide range of issues involving market share, social media, marketing, and much more!

The two most important issues everyone is talking about are Privacy and Cyber Crime said, Carlson Yamamoto, the founder and president of OnlyMeWorld. There is a general misconception though about these issues

Byron Acohido, USA Today, recently reported that Chris Calabrese, legal counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union was quoted saying that the latest Facebook changes touch a privacy nerve, Theres a loss of user control here, combined with the permanent nature of the information, it means there is a lack of the ability for consumers to control and protect their online reputations.

I think that we all know whatever you put on the web today is no longer private says, Carlson Yamamoto. The problem people have is when information is collected about them unknowingly.

Carlson Yamamoto gives an example: "When you go into a department store, you know that the store's security camera and staff are watching you. You fill out credit card applications, surveys, and socialize. This is all done knowingly and voluntarily. Once you leave the store though, does the store have a right to continue to watch, analyze, and track you without your permission? This is what Facebook, Google+, and many other social networking sites today are doing, which is not only an invasions of ones privacy, its a crime!"

Facebook, Google+, and most social networking sites today offer numerous privacy controls that somewhat protect users' privacy. When asked do these numerous privacy controls protect users from Cyber Crime, Big Brother Abuses, and Profiling? Carlson Yamamoto emphatically answers, No!

"Privacy controls only protect users profiles from being viewed by the general public, but do not stop hackers, companies, and governments from viewing and abusing your personal & financial life," explains Carlson Yamamoto.

Regardless of what sites today promise regarding security, any site can be hacked. (Some examples would be: governments, banks, and law enforcement agencies who all have "so called" state of art security systems) Social networking sites such as Facebook and Google+ are open-door gold mines for cyber criminals.

Hackers, companies and governments today have developed Facial Recognition Software, Data Mining, and Web Tracking, And, the information that users give both Voluntarily and Involuntarily to social networking sites such as Facebook and Google+ can be used for both good and bad purposes. "If used in a positive way, perhaps it could occasionally help law enforcement agencies throughout the world combat crime, or help end poverty and disease, or even promote socioeconomic equality. If used in a negative way, there will only be the haves and have-nots, the rich and the poor, all automatically profiled according to individual demographics," concludes Carlson Yamamoto.

The obvious solution to address these problems involving privacy, anonymity and cyber crime is simple; use no real names, and do not store people's email addresses.

OnlyMeWorld offers a social networking platform similar in function to Facebook, Google+, yet it differs in its approach to Privacy Rights, Anonymity, and Protection from Cyber Crime. At OnlyMeWorld, people are able to participate with absolute privacy and anonymity. OnlyMeWorld requires no real names or email addresses. It uses no web tracking, no facial recognition software, and no data mining.

OnlyMeWorld is the only safe alternative to Facebook, Google+, and other social networking sites.

Carlson Yamamoto is the Founder & President of OnlyMeWorld, Entrepreneur, and White Collar & Cyber Crime Consultant.

Too bad they weren't explicit that counterfeiting by government officials is just as detrimental to the economy and the value of the dollar. In wartime many nations actually operated counterfeiting programs to undermine the dollar, but never to a disastrous level. The enemy knew how harmful excessive creation of new money could be to the dollar and our economy. But it seems we never learned the dangers of creating new money out of thin air. We don't need an Arab nation or the Chinese to undermine our system with a counterfeiting operation. We do it to ourselves with the all the disadvantages that would occur if others did it to us. Today we hear threats from some Arab, Muslim and some Far Eastern countries about undermining the dollar system not by dishonest counterfeiting, but by initiating an alternative monetary system based on gold. Wouldn't that be ironic? Such an event theoretically could do great harm to us. This day may well come not so much ...

Ms. Clinton

Ms. Clinton...

Secretary Clinton has been as busy girl. Not even six weeks into the job and she has visited major allies and potential partners and is on deck to visit more within the next two weeks. Already she has earned criticism and courted controversy in her handling of issues and her style. In her most important trip to date, meeting with Chinese officials and leaders in Beijing, she has displayed great candor and pragmatism in her public comments.

When pressed to comment about how she proposed to address human rights with Chinese officials, she acknowledged that, while she would stress the need for respect of the human rights of Chinese citizens by its government, it was unlikely that the situation would change.

She was immediately attacked for her comment by those who took it as a sign of a lack of commitment by Secretary Clinton to rectify human rights abuses by the Chinese government against its people. She has spent the bulk of her trip dealing with the more practical issues that face our two nations, such as environmental standards, energy usage, trade, and the nuclear situation in North Korea, but has not made human rights a prominent public issue on this visit. Personally, I do not equate a realistic approach to China and their treatment of human rights with a lack of commitment. Nowhere did Secretary Clinton say that it was the US's intention to condone the present situation or to stand by and remain silent.

The Chinese are not likely to change overnight and any initiatives that the US would be able to bring about in the Chinese government's handling of human rights would take place over an extended period of time.

The CCP has been more successful in bringing about positive change for its people than other communist states such as the USSR, so dramatic overthrow of their system of government is unlikely. The CCP has also shown more tolerance for the creeping influx of capitalism at a rate that does not threaten the status quo, but that also makes an increasingly less isolated populace content. Over the last 50 years or so, the US has claimed to be the world's major proponent of liberty and freedom around the world. We have told the world that self-determination of a nation's people is a birthright granted to all and that no government should infringe on that right. We have invaded and gone to war in foreign countries and aided the civil wars of many more nations to further this belief . However, I find the paradox of this very disturbing. In Western thought, rights belong to the individual from birth. People give society authority by recognizing its importance enough to give up some these rights to the society at large, such as the rights to judge and to punish.

Society is not justified in taking away any of the rights remaining to the individual, because they do not have the authority to do so. Individuals are the sole holders of rights, so the needs of society do not outweigh the inalienable rights of the individual, such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. China, like many other societies and nations in this world, is far older than we are. They have cultural, religious, and societal traditions spanning over thousands of years. Unlike the Western world, Chinese culture, indeed most Asian cultures, is distinctively collectivist in nature. There are no individual rights because the individual per se has no value. A person's value exists in relation to the whole; worth is measured by their contribution to society. If a society does not recognize the value of the individual on hies own merit, then it does not recognize the inalienable rights belonging to the individual. Does a society that does not recognize the individual lose its right of self-determination or the liberty to decide how to govern itself based on traditions that have existed for thousands of years and are at the core of its belief system just because they don't think like us? If we believe that every nation's people has the right to decide for itself, without intrusion, what form of government it wants, then why should the US feel justified in trying to tell other nations how they should govern themselves and what rights and value systems they should promote? While I desire to live in a country that values my rights and freedoms as an individual because that is the value system I was raised under, is it right to assume that everyone else in the world feels like me, even if the values they were raised under are different? Seems a bit self-righteous and egotistical to me. If freedom is the right of all, don't other nations and their people have the freedom to disagree with us? Secretary Clinton, in her comments, has shown a willingness to understand that other nations with differing values than ours have different priorities. Maybe when we start practicing what we preach on a world stage instead of trying to tell everyone else how they should live, especially as our country struggles with its own issues, we would earn the right to suggest to other nations how they should govern. Until we can truly be a beacon of hope and a model of inspiration, we should just agree to disagree and respect the right of self-determination of all the nations of the world.

Pcgs Gold Ensure Your Gold Coins Are Genuine

What is PCGS?

PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) is a third party rare gold coin grader. A gold coin owner pays a fee and is presented with the grading services opinion on the condition and authenticity of the coin. When returned to the owner, the coin is encapsulated in a clear plastic container that fully covers the coin and has been sealed. Therefore, a PCGS gold coin is a coin that has been certified for its quality and is guaranteed to be as pure as it is stated to be on the encapsulating plastic cover.

The whole idea of the foundation of PCGS was to help in smoothing out the inconsistencies that were abundant in the appraisal of gold coins. But, the appraisals and the market values of the coins were actually found to increase or decrease with the amount of supply and demand, rather than and irrespective of the certification or grading of the PCGS.

PCGS for You

While you may go ahead and buy a modern PCGS gold coin (it will help in making sure that the coin is not fake), there is actually little to no effect on the price that will be added when you have your modern coin graded by the PCGS. And truth told, apart from adding of the PCGS fees to the total cost of the coin, these days the PCGS gold coin certification is next to worthless in respect of modern gold coins. In other words - it is just a waste of money.

But there is an exception. And that is in the case that the coins are of very rare nature, where it might serve the owners purpose to have it verified. For coins that are worth millions of dollars, paying the fees (around $ 500-$ 1000 all inclusive) is, firstly, not that significant an amount and, secondly, could mean that the value difference of a single point, in the 1-70 point grading system, could lose it a cash worth in the thousands of dollars.

Choose the Best

So, should you choose to go into the buying and selling of PCGS gold coins the 19 years experience tucked under the belt of Certified Gold Exchange can serve as an expert guide in all transactions. A company known to be one of the best performers in the North American Precious Metals trading environs, this company is so good at what it does that it has a high customer satisfaction rate. The continuous A+ grading it receives from the Bureau of Better Business is proof of that.

How To Shop for USA Gold Coins on Ebay USA

Article by Jennyhow

If you're an avid gold coin collector or in particular a collector of USA gold coins you'll be happy to know that you can also find these rare collectibles online through popular auctions sites like ebay USA.

Nowadays, you can practically buy anything on ebay so there's bound to be a lot of gold coin collectors selling some of their collections online.

Looking for Gold Online

Ebay USA has a very useful and handy search function. An important thing to remember is that sellers may use different names to label their products.

For example, a $ 10 Liberty gold coin that you're looking for might very well be labeled as a "$ 10 gold coin" or probably even simply as "gold coin". The trick is to use alternating terms in searching for those USA gold coins.

Another way is through searching in categories like for example if you're searching for gold coins these can be categorized by denominations from $ 1 to $ 5 and then $ 10 to $ 20 and so on. Or it can be categorized by periods when the coins were made like Pre-1800s or Post 1900s.

You can also search by trying different terms like "gold coins" or "antique coins".

Research Before You Bid

Like any avid collector you practically know the kind of product you're looking for. But before making that final bid it's important to check out other similar items you can find in ebay USA by using its advanced search function.

This function allows you to limit search results of USA gold coins and find out winning bid amounts and complete descriptions of it. Also don't forget to check out shipping and handling costs since you will be paying for those too.

Know Who You're Buying From

Just like buying from a specialty store it's important to know who you're buying the coins from, which is why reputation is important. Ebay also has the same functionality.

Ebay gives you a chance check on a seller's reputation through feedback since both you and the seller get to rate each other after every auction. Be wary of sellers with a feedback rating of less than 95% positive because chances are they have the most complaints.

Also do check the seller's About Me page to get a better idea who they are and their expertise.

Ask the Questions

It's always a good idea to ask questions about the coins you're buying through eBay's convenient "Ask A Seller A Question" link and you'll get a reply at you're My Messages section of your page. You can ask anything from minute details to photos or even shipping queries.

Start Your Bids

Bidding in ebay USA can be just as exciting as any auction.

But be careful on spending too much for those USA gold coins. Before you start bidding it's important to know the true value of the product by finding out its desirability, shipping and handling costs, insurance and maybe even its appraisal cost.

The Ancient Order of the Red Cross of Gold is set upon by unexplained forces as the alchemist and assassin, Chevalier Mark Ramsay, learns a powerful lesson about physical alchemy when he unexpectedly 'gives birth' to the mythical Philosopher's Stone. The arrival of the Stone sets off a chain of events prophesied in a number of obscure alchemical texts wherein he and his Brothers play pivotal roles in an alchemical process. The Stone, coveted by many, understood by few, is stolen and held for ransom by a renegade Templar apprentice bent on exacting revenge for losing his place in the Order. The Grand Master must sacrifice the Knight of the Golden Eagle's immortality in order to recover the Stone and Mark Ramsay's son who has much more about him than they first imagined. The traitor's bumbling disregard for the Templar Code catches the attention of an even more terrifying old enemy.

This Seasons Perfect Storm for Ticks
Sydney, NSW (PRWEB) October 28, 2011

As temperatures begin to rise, the North Shore could be heading towards a perfect storm when it comes to tick infestations. Pet owners are urged to act now to protect their pets from ticks, especially the deadly paralysis tick.

Ticks thrive in warm and moist conditions. With the likelihood of above average temperatures and rainfall in Queensland and NSW1, we are urging pet owners to be vigilant this season in protecting their dogs against ticks, Dr Chris Boulton, veterinarian from Gordon Veterinary Hospital said.

To help pet owners on the North Shore we have created a guide called Surviving Tick Paralysis Dr Boulton said. It really shows people what to look out for and what to do. It is a great resource that you can download off our website for no charge.

During the recent Australian Small Animal Veterinary Association Conference,on the Gold Coast, researchfindings were presented that showed ticks grow bigger and stronger during hot and humid seasons and are potentially more toxic to dogs.

This means we can expect a significant rise in the number of fit and healthy ticks out there ready to infest our pets. Unfortunately it also means that we expect to see more cases of severe tick paralysis this season, Dr Boulton said.

The paralysis tick, Ixodesholocyclusis the most common tick found along the East Coast of Australia and once attached presents a life-threatening risk to dogs and cats.

They are commonly found in long grass or scrub and tend to attach to the head and neck region of the pet, but can be found anywhere on the body. The ticks release a toxin during feeding and have been known to kill dogs within 48 hours, so prevention is the best cure.

Last year we saw 200 or more cases of tick paralysis in our hospital. We can treat dogs and cats for tick paralysis, by using an anti-venom and intensive supportive therapy, but unfortunately we arent always successful in saving their lives, Dr Boulton said.

The duration of tick season depends on climatic conditions and location. It may commence as early as July/August and continue through to April/May.

We urge dog owners to guard against ticks this season by using a product specifically aimed at killing and repelling ticks, such as a spot-on, like Advantix, or a tick collar, like Kiltix Collar, and checking their pets for ticks on a daily basis. Flea treatments will not protect dogs against ticks. For cats Frontline is the best option though it is not registered as a tick prevention. You cant use Advantix in cats.

If your pet has a tick, or shows signs of tick paralysis, contact your vet immediately to access medical advice and treatment, Dr Boulton said.

Gold Liberty Bu: Liberty Head Gold Piece (1866-1908) BU

Liberty Head Gold coins are classic symbols of Americas golden past. The series includes the first-ever and gold coins, which were inspired in 1849 by the California "Gold Rush." The Liberty Head gold coins feature elegant designs that were last struck nearly a century ago in 1908. Gold has always been treasured for its beauty and lasting value, and classic United States gold coins are the most respected and sought-after in the world. But the last circulating gold coins were minted more than 70 years ago, and over 90% of all US gold coins were melted by the US government in the 1930s. Millions more were melted for quick profits when the price of gold bullion shot up. As a result, only a tiny fraction of the original coins remain especially in extremely fine condition such as this example.
